Scripture Text: Matthew 6:33-34
Instead, desire first and foremost God’s kingdom and God’s righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore, stop worrying about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Reflection
Trust. Worry. These are some of the most pressing things of our everyday lives. There are so many worries we share, from remembering to take out the trash, making sure we have everything before work, to forgetting to run the dishwasher before bed. It is stressful. But, as Matthew reminds us, when we cannot focus, have a hard time getting to bed after a long day, or simply need a breather, we can put our trust and faith in God. Matthew is conveying to us not to be anxious about anything. Through prayer, trust, and faith in God, our requests are made known and will be answered. While we do not always know what is around the corner or what is going to happen in the future, we can rest easy because God is with us always. As Matthew reminds us in the 19th chapter of his gospel, “All things are possible with God.”
Prayer
Ever-loving God, You are our refuge and our strength and help when we are in trouble.
We ask that you be with us in the midst of our daily routines and help us manage our apprehension of what is next. Help us to confront our worries and remind us that you are with us, even when we forget. We ask all these things in your holy name. Amen.
