It has been said a time to two… (million) that God has a sense of humor. Sometimes get God’s jokes, some times they go right over our heads.
As I was preparing my meditation for the Ash Wednesday service I was studying and pondering the text; Psalm 51. It’s a powerful Psalm and one of the 6 penitential Psalms that are most often used during Lent. The main theme of the Psalm is: “Create in me a clean heart O God”.
As I was chewing on that phrase as I was also finishing up my lunch, savoring the wining combo of tuna fish and potato chips. Not necessarily heart healthy, but immensely satisfying.
There’s a picture of the last chip in the bag above.
God is hilarious. Perhaps God wanted me to give up chips for Lent (I didn’t), but I know God wants all of us to seek to create a clean heart physically and spiritually. This is not done is day’s work but over time through intention, prayer and paying attention to even the smallest and silliest of signs. Beyond attending worship and working through the Lenten Cards daily, we are offering lots of ways additional ways to get heart healthy, this Lenten season.
Lenten Wednesdays begin March 1st @7:30 PM via Zoom, where we explore the challenges, insights and blessings from the GIVE, FAST, PRAY cards. We are hosting a sock giveaway and pizza party for the Loaves and Fishes clients, this Sunday March 5th (after worship). There will be a special service and coffee hour March 12th highlighting and furthering the three new Retreat Initiatives: Faith Formation, Interfaith Activities and Strengthening Connections. We also have a painting party on Friday March 24th, A Palm Sunday Breakfast and Parade with St Johns and special services for Holy week and Easter. I hope you will avail yourselves of as many of these activities so that you can to create a clean heart this Lenten season.
